Organic Double-Flowered Dwarf Daffodils
The Narcissus 'Tete Rosette' is a unique dwarf daffodil. It is the double-flowered version of the world-famous miniature daffodil Narcissus 'Tête à Tête'. It features small, double yellow flowers and grows to about 20 centimeters tall, with one or more bluish-green stems per bulb. The plant has narrow, medium-length leaves that rise above the flowers, and each stem carries a single bloom. It is an early-blooming daffodil that flowers for approximately 4 weeks between March and April.
It is very suitable as a cut flower and has a lovely fragrance.
Combine it with Muscari armeniacum or Tulipa 'Little Beauty'.
How, where, and when to plant dwarf daffodil bulbs?
A daffodil bulb needs a period of cold. Plant it in the ground from September to January. The planting depth should be 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb, and the spacing should be 2 to 3 times the bulb’s width. When planting in pots, the bulbs may be placed closer together and can be positioned partially above the soil for a decorative effect. However, after flowering, they should be replanted in the garden with the same depth and spacing guidelines.
Plant the 'Tete Rosette' daffodil in a sunny to semi-shaded spot in the garden, lawn, or in containers. For best results, plant in groups in nutrient-rich, well-draining, preferably lime-rich sandy soil.
Daffodil bulbs are toxic and therefore avoided by rodents such as voles. Use them as a natural protective barrier for other flower bulbs by planting them around and among the others.
Care
Add organic fertilizer when planting. Remove spent flowers from the top and allow the remaining foliage to die back naturally. Only cut the leaves once they are fully dried out. The 'Tete Rosette' daffodil is a strong variety that naturalizes well. It faithfully returns every year. For optimal results, apply organic fertilizer annually.
Propagation
For propagation, bulbs can be dug up in early summer. Allow them to dry and store them in a warm place. From September onwards, they can be replanted. Plant the small bulblets separately and give them organic fertilizer so they can grow quickly.
History of 'Tete Rosette'
The Narcissus 'Tete Rosette' originated as a double-flowered variety of the world-renowned Narcissus 'Tête-à-Tête'. 'Tete Rosette' is a relatively new cultivar that, like its predecessor, naturalizes well. Although detailed historical information about 'Tete Rosette' is limited, it is clear that it stems from selective breeding aimed at creating attractive, double-flowered dwarf daffodils.
