The woodland tulip grows well in different soil types, including sandy soil, loam soil and clay soil. The most important thing is that the soil is not too compact and has good drainage.

They feel especially at home under trees, in wooded environments or in the edges of shrubs. Choose a spot where they get enough sunlight in the spring before the leaves of trees and shrubs fully develop.

Care of the woodland tulip

Remove dead flowers to prevent seed formation. Allow the leaves of Tulipa sylvestris to wilt and turn yellow naturally after flowering. This ensures that the nutrients return to the bulb for the next flowering cycle. Avoid cutting off the leaves prematurely, as this can affect the health of the flower bulb.

It is a tulip that naturally occurs in forests, grasslands, and mountainous areas, and it is classified as a “stinzenplant” (naturalized garden plant). This means that sylvestris has been present in the Netherlands for hundreds of years.
