Organic purple ornamental onion
The Allium 'Purple Sensation', also known as Dutch garlic, has medium-sized purple round flowers and bloom late in the spring, making them an excellent combination with colorful perennials. It grows to a height of about 80 centimeters to a meter and blooms for about 4 weeks in May and June. The purple umbellifer, which is almost round like a ball, has a flower diameter of about 15 centimeters wide and consists of approximately 300 star-shaped flowers that have a sweet onion-like taste.
The bees love them because of the abundance of nectar and the intense deep purple color and they smell wonderful! Plant them in groups in the garden or in pots for a wow effect. It looks a lot like the white Allium 'Mount Everest', which is why they can be combined well with each other. They will provide years of fun!
Tip: Suitable for drying.
How, where and when do I plant Allium flowerbulbs?
An 'Allium' flowerbulb needs a cold period. It is therefore best to plant it in the ground in the autumn from October to January. The planting depth is 2 to 3 times the size of the flowerbulb itself and the planting distance is 2 to 3 times the width of the flowerbulb itself. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in a nutrient-rich, water-permeable, preferably calcareous, sandy soil.
Care of the Allium 'Purple Sensation'
After flowering, cut off the spent flowers and once the foliage has died, the flowerbulb can be dug out to divide the flowerbulb. They usually tend to self-propagate. Then store the flowerbulbs in a warm and dry area, such as a shed, until September and then plant them again in the ground. You can also choose to leave the flowerbulbs in the ground, where they will naturally naturalize and grow again.
Provide organic nutrition immediately when planting and in the spring before flowering for optimal results!
