Organic Light Yellow Gladioli
The Gladiolus 'Kio' is a light yellow gladiolus that with its soft color immediately adds a fresh atmosphere to your garden. With a height of 120 centimeters, this gladiolus is slightly more compact than some other gladioli, which makes it particularly suitable for both large and small gardens.
The flowers of the 'Kio' bloom gracefully along the sturdy, straight stems and are ideal as cut flowers thanks to their long vase life. The long, sword-shaped leaves of the 'Kio' are deep green and upright. These leaves reinforce the vertical silhouette of the plant and provide natural support for the flower stems, so that the 'Kio' remains sturdy even in changing weather conditions.
How, Where and When Do I Plant Gladiolus Tubers?
Indoor pre-growth
The 'Kio' is not winter hardy. From March the tubers can be grown indoors for an early flowering. After the Ice Saints (15 May) the plants can go outside, or earlier if the weather is good. Watch out for night frost; bring them inside at night if necessary.
Outside in the Garden
Plant the tubers after the frost period, preferably from 15 May. The planting depth is 2 to 3 times the height of the tuber (approximately 15 cm deep), with a planting distance of 2 to 3 times the width of the tuber. The tubers can be planted up to and including June.
Location
Gladioli like to be in a sunny spot in well-drained, nutritious loam or sandy soil. In the case of clay soil, it is advisable to add organic material. Plant the gladioli in a sheltered spot to protect them from the wind.
Care
Water regularly during the growth and flowering phase so that the plants do not dry out. After flowering, the leaves die off completely. Remove the corms from the ground before the frost and store them in a dry, frost-free place. Gladioli are perennial, but to prevent soil fungi, it is wise to plant the corms in a different place every year.

Propagation
Gladioli reproduce underground by small bulbils. These can be discarded or replanted. Large corms that have split can be planted separately for new plants.
Origin
The sword lily is native to South Africa and belongs to the iris family ( Iridaceae ). The name Gladiolus is derived from the Latin word "gladius," meaning "sword."
