Organic narcissus 'Dick Wilden'
The flowers of the Narcissus 'Dick Wilden' belong to the double-flowered daffodils. This striking daffodil has bright yellow, richly filled flowers with multiple whorls of tepals, which ensures a full and lush appearance. Due to the double flower shape, each flower looks like a small sun of petals. The flower spreads a light scent and attracts bees in early spring.
Narcissus 'Dick Wilden' grows to about 40 to 45 cm high and flowers in March to April. The sturdy stems carry one large, decorative flower per stem and are resistant to wind and rain.
This daffodil is ideal for borders, naturalization, pots and flower boxes. Combine with tulips or Siberian Squill for a festive play of colours in your spring garden.
How, where and when do I plant daffodil bulbs?
Plant the flower bulbs from September to January. Use a planting depth of 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb (approx. 10 cm deep), and keep 10 cm distance between the bulbs. In pots they can be closer together. Plant in a sunny to half-shaded spot in well-drained, preferably slightly calcareous sandy or loamy soil. In heavy clay soil it is advisable to add compost or sand for better drainage.
Like all daffodils, 'Dick Wilden' is also slightly poisonous and is avoided by voles – a natural protection for other flower bulbs.
Care
Add some organic fertilizer when planting. After flowering, you can cut off the faded flowers, but leave the foliage until it has completely died. This ensures that the bulb stores enough energy for the next season. 'Dick Wilden' is a strong variety that naturalizes well and returns for years in the right location. Add a little organic fertilizer annually in early spring for strong flowering.
Propagation
The bulbs can be dug up in the summer and stored in a cool, dry place. The small secondary bulbs can be planted separately from September. After a few years, these will also flower. 'Dick Wilden' naturalises reliably, especially if it is in a permanent place with sufficient sun.
