Organic white triumph tulips

The Tulipa 'Calgary' is a graceful, white Triumph tulip with a classic tulip shape and an elegant appearance. The petals are pure white with a fresh, bright shine. This tulip blooms in April and grows to about 25 cm high. Thanks to its sturdy stems, it is resistant to wind and rain.

'Calgary' is perfect for pots, window boxes and the front of the border. The neutral white colour combines beautifully with other spring bloomers such as blue grape hyacinths, purple tulips or light pink hyacinths.

How, where and when do I plant a tulip bulb?

A tulip bulb needs a cold period to flower. Therefore, plant 'Calgary' from October so that it can absorb the cold in the winter. Use a planting depth of 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb and a planting distance of 2 to 3 times the width of the bulb.

Plant in a sunny to semi-shaded spot in well-drained, nutritious soil. For sandy soil, add clay minerals; for heavy clay, add organic matter to improve drainage. Avoid prolonged wet soil to prevent rot.

Care

When planting, add some organic fertilizer, but do not overfeed to prevent the plant from growing mainly leaves. After flowering, cut the flower away, but leave the foliage until it has completely died back – this will feed the bulb for next year.

In July, once the foliage has withered, you can dig up the bulbs and dry them in an airy, warm place. They can be replanted in the autumn.

What if tulip bulbs are left in the ground?

If organic bulbs remain in the ground, they can flower again, but often less vigorously. The risk of diseases such as tulip fire increases. Therefore, change the planting location annually to keep the soil healthy.
