Organic golden garlic
The Allium moly 'Jeannine' is also called 'golden garlic' or 'yellow ornamental onion'. It is a plant for bees and bumblebees, and a host plant for butterflies. This beautiful plant closely resembles wild garlic, but has a beautiful yellow color instead of white. It has narrow leaves with a gray tint, which are about 15 centimeters long.
With her sturdy stem she reaches a height of about 30 centimeters. The Allium moly 'Jeannine' produces umbrella-shaped flowers of approximately 10 centimeters wide and blooms in the months of May and June. This allium is a naturalizing plant that fits perfectly in any garden.
Place them in groups for a full bouquet of flowers. The cultivar 'Jeannine' produces larger flowers and can develop up to three flower stems per flowerbulb. The yellow Allium moly can be combined well with many late-flowering spring flowers. It combines very well with the blue Allium caeruleum 'Azureum', the purple slightly taller Allium 'Purple Sensation'.
How, where and when do I plant an Allium 'Jeannine' flowerbulb?
An Allium 'Jeannine' flowerbulb needs a cold period. Therefore, plant it in the ground in the autumn from October to January. The planting depth is 2 to 3 times the flowerbulb itself and the planting distance is 2 to 3 times the width of the flowerbulb itself. It can be planted in the sun or in the shade, but in the sun it becomes slightly brighter in color. Plant it in a nutrient-rich, water-permeable, preferably calcareous, sandy soil.
Care of the allium
Cut off the spent flowers at the top of the stem and let the rest of the stem and leaves die. The flowerbulbs can possibly be removed from the ground for propagation in July. Dry the flowerbulbs and store them in a warm place until October and then plant them again. The flowerbulbs naturally naturalize. They can also be left in place in the summer.
