The imperial crown is a plant that grows from an impressive flower bulb. The thick, unbranched flower stems can grow up to 70 centimeters high. What makes this plant special is that the narrow pointed leaves grow both along the flower stem and on top of the hanging flowers.

The flower stem of the Fritillaria imperialis 'Rubra Maxima' has a dark color. The leaves cover about 1/3 of the flower stem at the bottom. The famous imperial crown consists of 5 to 12 impressive, hanging bell-shaped flowers in a striking orange color, crowned with beautiful overhanging green leaves.
