Organic pink hyacinths
The well-known pink Hyacinthus orientalis 'Pink Pearl' is very famous for its fantastic scent. It has approximately 30 to 40 blue, bell-shaped, fragrant flowers in a cluster on the flower stem, with one flower stem per flowerbulb and elongated leaves from a leaf rosette at the base of the plant. It is single-flowered, so the bees and bumblebees also love it and very suitable to use as a cut flower in a vase.
Plant them in groups in the garden or in pots, best combined with other low spring bloomers such as white grapes. She can also be mixed well with the other Pearl hyacinths.
How, where and when do I plant a hyacinth flowerbulb?
A hyacinth bulb needs a cold period, so it is planted in the ground from September to January. The planting depth is 2 to 3 times the height of the flowerbulb itself and the planting distance is 2 to 3 times the width of the flowerbulb itself. Unless you plant them in pots. Then the flowerbulbs can grow closer together and possibly even slightly above the ground, simply because those bulbs are so beautiful! (Be sure to press them back into the ground every now and then, otherwise the roots of the flowerbulb will push the flowerbulb up!)
Tip: You can also place the flowerbulbs in our paper bag in the refrigerator for 9 weeks before planting them. This way the flowerbulb gets the cold period and they can also bloom indoors in winter. For flowering at Christmas, the flowerbulb must be cooled from October 1st and planted no later than December 6th! Of course, this whole process can also be done later for later flowering.
Indoor tip: Place them away from fruit. Fruit gives off ethylene gas, which makes the flowers bloom faster.
Hyacinths thrive best in sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. A light to moderately sandy soil is ideal for hyacinths. This type of soil ensures that excess water can drain easily, reducing the risk of root rot.
Care of the hyacinths
For the best results, remove the bulbs from the ground in early summer and store them in a warm place, for example in the shed. The flowerbulb is then replanted in October with some organic nutrition. The flowerbulb will also bloom again automatically if it remains in the ground after flowering, but it will bloom less profusely from year to year.
Propagation
The flowerbulbs reproduce via small breeding bulbs. Remove the small bulbs after flowering and replant them separately in the fall. After about 4 years, the small bulbs will be the same size as the flowerbulb we supply to you, then they will produce optimal flowering.
Origin of the hyacinth
The Hyacinthus orientalis is the original species and originates from the Eastern Mediterranean to Central Asia. She was first described in 1557 by Carolus Clusius . The color blue is the original color.
