Organic red hot poker

The Kniphofia uvaria 'Royal Castle' is a beautiful perennial plant with unique flowers that bloom in mid-summer. The flowers are like rockets, hence the name 'torch lily' or 'red hot poker'.  The sturdy flower stems grow to approximately one meter in height and one flower stem per plant in the first year, but it becomes wider and more profusely flowering every year.

The rocket-like flowers can be used as cut flowers in a vase and the many nectar-rich flowers make them very good for bees and other pollinators!

How, where and when do I plant Kniphofia roots in the ground?

The roots of a Klikhofia are winter hardy. These can be planted immediately from early spring. The planting depth is such that the green just protrudes above the ground. Plant the carrots in groups of 3 or in larger groups, a maximum of 15 together.
The location is preferably in full sun or partial shade. Plant it in a nutrient-rich, water-permeable, preferably sandy soil. Avoid wet feet.

Care of the Kniphofia

Cut off the spent flowers at the bottom of the flower stem and leave the leaves. The leaves remain green for a long time in winter. Remove the yellow leaves the following spring. Provide annual feeding for optimal results.

We recommend Bio Kultura for organic potting soil, plant food and other soil improvers!
